Ameren offers tips to manage extreme heat, save money

ST. LOUIS (KBSI) — With a heat wave forecasted for Missouri and Illinois, Ameren is providing customers with practical steps to stay safe and cool while managing energy costs.

Ameren recommends simple changes such as:

— Running ceiling or box fans with air conditioners
— Changing or cleaning filters
— Blocking sunlight with blinds or drapes
— Cooking outdoors or using small appliances
— Programming thermostats

Customers can also enroll in Budget Billing to spread seasonal high-usage costs over equal monthly payments.

Income-qualified customers may be eligible for federal and state assistance programs. Ameren also offers payment agreements, due date extensions and rebates for energy-saving products.
