SCAM ALERT: Jury duty phone scam targets residents
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – A new phone scam is circulating, with callers claiming to be law enforcement or court officials. The scammers tell victims they missed jury duty and threaten arrest unless a fine is paid immediately, often demanding payment through gift cards, prepaid debit cards or wire transfers.
Authorities warn that this is a scam. Court officials will never call to demand payment or threaten arrest for missing jury duty.
If you receive such a call:
Hang up immediately.
Contact your local law enforcement or court directly to verify any concerns.
Stay vigilant and inform others to protect them from this scam.
