Truck repair shop received significant damage after morning fire

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Multiple crews responded to a structure fire on 1242 Meadow Brooke Lane in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

According to Cape Fire Battalion Chief Norman Baker Cape Fire Department responded around 10 am this morning on July 7, 2025. He says heavy smoke and fire were seen coming from the building.

Alot of fire in the building when we arrived. Alot of smoke and fire were visible when we arrived and it took about 30 minutes to get it under control”. “There were petroleum storage tanks inside the facility and that product needed to be off loaded and stored in safer storage tanks so it could be transferred off of the property. So, we had to remain on scene until all of that activity was completed and the threat was completely mitigated.” ” says Baker.

The building is a truck repair shop called White Tank and Truck Repair. Baker says there was only one employee on scene when they arrived and the employee was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported. Bakers says the fire was an accident.

An employee was working with some metal using welding and grounding tools and put sparks off and he noticed a flash behind him, so some fumes of some sort and the grinding activity created enough of a heat source to ignite those fumes” says Baker.

Gordonville Fire Protection District also responded to assist with water, because there were no fire hydrants within 2,000 feet of the building and it was located on Sprigg Street.
