Collapse at Illinois coal mine; injuries reported

PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill., (KBSI) — An accident at a southern Illinois coal mine injured two people, who were flown to a hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred Monday night at the Knight Hawk Prairie Eagle Coal Mine, located near the Perry-Randolph County line.

Two people were transported by helicopter to a regional hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Pinckneyville Fire Department, Pinckneyville Ambulance Service, Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Air Evac Lifeteam and Washington County EMS, were dispatched to the scene.

Knight Hawk Coal has been contacted for additional information on the extent of the injuries and the potential cause of the accident.
