Alton implements new closing times for downtown businesses

ALTON, Ill., (KBSI) — Mayor David Goins has ordered new closing times for several downtown Alton businesses, effective July 21, 2025.

Hiram’s Bar and Pour Decisions will now close at 1 a.m. Firehouse Tavern and Mac’s have voluntarily agreed to also close at 1 a.m.

The decision aims to address disturbances occurring between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Alton Police Department will increase its presence downtown during late-night hours to enforce laws related to open alcohol, loitering, disorderly conduct, and other disruptions to public peace.

Patrons are advised to leave the area promptly after closing time, as loitering will not be tolerated.

The city welcomes responsible visitors but warns that intent on causing chaos that officers will take appropriate action.

The initiative prioritizes safety for residents, patrons, and business owners.
