Gov. Beshear kicks off second annual KSP Youth Academy

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Gov. Andy Beshear has launched the second annual Kentucky State Police Youth Academy Program, a week-long initiative introducing teenagers to law enforcement principles.

The program, held at Trooper Island Camp, provides 16- and 17-year-olds with hands-on training, leadership skills and insight into law enforcement careers.

“Building trust between law enforcement and young Kentuckians is crucial,” Beshear said. “This program helps recruit and prepare tomorrow’s first responders.”

The program includes physical training, classroom instruction and activities reflecting real-life law enforcement responsibilities. Participants will explore core values, team-building and forensic techniques.

The Kentucky State Police launched the program last year to strengthen recruitment efforts and community outreach.
