FEMA Aid available to Kentucky houses of worship, nonprofits affected by spring disasters
FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Houses of worship and private nonprofit organizations in Kentucky may be eligible for federal assistance to recover from April floods and May tornadoes.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance program may reimburse eligible costs for debris removal, emergency work and restoration of damaged facilities.
Kentucky received presidential Public Assistance declarations on July 22 for the April storms and May 16-17 tornadoes. These declarations enable state and local agencies, houses of worship and certain nonprofits to apply for federal Public Assistance grants.
To be eligible, organizations must own and operate damaged facilities in designated counties, submit insurance claims, apply for a disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration and provide proof of tax-exempt status.
Nonprofits must submit a Request for Public Assistance by Aug. 22. Kentucky Emergency Management will assist with uploading required information into the grants portal.
For more information, contact local or county emergency management agencies or visit the Public Assistance Policy Guide.
