2 killed, helicopter crashes into barge on Mississippi River near Alton, Ill.

ALTON, Ill., (KBSI) — A helicopter crashed, killing two occupants, according to Deputy Chief M. Fischer with Alton Fire Rescue.

Emergency responders were contacted around 11:30 a.m. and arrived on scene to find a small helicopter engulfed in smoke.

Fischer said the investigation is in its early stages, and officials are awaiting the arrival of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
