Report highlights need for expanded technical training in Cape Girardeau region
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A new report by Southeast Missouri Regional Economic Development, Inc. (SEMO REDI) confirms an urgent need for expanded technical training in high-demand fields in the Cape Girardeau region.
The report, “Assessing Expansion of Technical Training in Southeast Missouri,” identifies four critical areas with persistent labor shortages: automotive mechanics, HVAC, construction trades and electrical work.
Employers report struggling to fill job openings, with many willing to partner on solutions by donating equipment, offering internships and advising on curriculum.
SEMO REDI CEO Shad Burner emphasized the importance of expanding technical training to address the workforce gap and support local businesses and the regional economy.
