Jackson man charged after road rage shooting in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Jackson man has been charged after police said he fired multiple shots at another driver during a reported road rage incident in Cape Girardeau.
Cape Girardeau police said officers responded about 8:53 p.m. Tuesday to the 200 block of South Mt. Auburn for a report of shots fired and a vehicle struck. Investigators later determined the shooting happened around 8:43 p.m. near North Kingshighway and Cape County Park South.
Officers observed several bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle. The victim told police the suspect retrieved a firearm and fired several rounds after an altercation near Veterans Memorial and North Kingshighway.
Using the city’s Flock Camera System, officers identified the suspect’s vehicle and home address. Deputies with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department located and arrested Adrian Stokes Sr., 40, of Jackson, in the 200 block of Cane Creek.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office charged Stokes with first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies. He is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Police reminded the public that charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
