Juvenile arrested after shots fired near high school football game

Mayfeild Ky Football Stadium

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) – Friday afternoon on August 22cd Friday night lights took a turn. As a 14-year-old opened fire at a parking area outside of the Mayfeild Ky, football stadium.

Mayfield Police Chief Nathan Kent shares updates on the investigation.

“It was just fist to cuffs and then, someone produced a handgun and fired a shot and struck, someone there. The shot hit him in, kind of the arm and armpit area, and then, went into their chest cavity. That person has a wound to their lung. The patient was transported by ground ambulance to the local hospital here, and then flown to a trauma center, in Nashville.

The victim was identified as Jordan Riley an 18-year-old former Mayfeild student but did not currently attend the school.

Kent tells me the shooter was a juvenile from outside of the Mayfeild area and after an investigation they arrested a 14-year-old Sunday morning August 24, 2025.

The 14-year-old, Male is from Fulton, Kentucky, and is being charged with Assault in the first degree according to Kent.

When the shot was fired it rang through the stadium and students and parents both ran for safety. Making for a very scary situation.

The Mayfeild School District posted to social media that they all Mayfeild school activities were canceled through the weekend and the district had counselors available Saturday for students to talk too.

Kent says this is an isolated incident between two individuals and the shooter is currently in a juvenile detention facility.

Kent also says their department will meet with the school district and other surrounding agencies tomorrow, August 26, to discuss added safety measures however he wants parents and students to know this was not in any way related to the Mayfeild School District and he hopes parents and students will attend football games in the future without hesitation.

“We’re going to meet all heads together tomorrow and just see if there is a way that we can ensure public safety and just promote people’s, you know, general sense that it’s safe to come to the, you know, football games and so forth but were, thankful that we were able to make an arrest on this and there is no danger to the public” says Kent.
