SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Scott County Coroner, Cody Caudle, has identified the man killed Monday morning in an accident involving quarry machinery at Colt Rock & Lime in Scott City as 26-year-old Ethan Amberger of Perryville.

Scott City Police Chief Chris Griggs said emergency crews were dispatched around 7:21 a.m. to the quarry on Rock Levee Road for what was initially reported as an industrial rescue. Upon arrival, responders found Amberger possibly trapped in a remote area of the mining facility. The situation was later transitioned from a rescue to a recovery operation.

The recovery effort involved multiple agencies, including the Scott City Fire Department, Scott City Police Department, North Scott County Ambulance District, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the Scott County Coroner’s Office. Amberger was recovered at approximately 12:48 p.m. and turned over to the coroner’s office.

Griggs said officers and firefighters worked alongside Cape Girardeau Fire crews, who brought heavy equipment to assist. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by MSHA and the coroner’s office.

Scott City Fire officials thanked all assisting agencies as well as a local business that provided food for responders. “We express our sincere condolences to the family and ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.
