Franklin County Sheriff announces 2026 re-election bid

BENTON, Ill., (KBSI) — Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon announced he will seek re-election in 2026, following his first term in office after being elected in November 2022.

The sheriff, who has spent 27 years in public service, said his priorities remain rooted in integrity, transparency and accountability. Since taking office, he has emphasized community collaboration and coordination with municipal police departments across the county.

“I believe that pro-active law enforcement services, community engagement and data-driven approaches are paramount to increasing public safety, while maintaining protections guaranteed by our Constitution,” he said in a statement.

Looking ahead, the sheriff said he plans to continue addressing challenges facing law enforcement, including those related to the Safe-T Act, mental health crises and addiction. He pledged to expand staff training, strengthen professionalism within the office and adopt new technology to improve public safety.

“I am deeply honored that the people of Franklin County placed their trust in me, and I ask for your continued support in the 2026 election cycle,” he said.
