PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Baptist Health Paducah has named Christy Harris, patient access coordinator, as the latest recipient of its HoneyBEE Award, which recognizes staff members who demonstrate compassion, empathy, trust, teamwork and dedication to exceptional patient care.

The award, given quarterly, honors employees for “Being Extraordinary Every Day.” Hospital officials said Harris exemplified that standard during a recent phone call with a patient scheduling an appointment.

According to her nomination, Harris noticed the patient did not sound well and asked if she could contact someone for him. The patient told her he had no emergency contacts. Harris then connected him with the nurse line, and the patient was ultimately brought to the hospital for treatment of a stroke.

“Christy demonstrates the importance of listening to patients and recognizing potential problems even over the telephone,” hospital officials said in a statement. “She very well may have saved his life that day.”

The HoneyBEE Award is part of Baptist Health’s recognition program for staff who go above and beyond in patient care.
