Carterville man charged after hit-and-run that injured juvenile

CARTERVILLE, Ill., (KBSI) — A Carterville man was arrested Wednesday after police said he struck a juvenile pedestrian with his vehicle and left the scene.
The crash happened around 3:16 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Division Street, according to the Carterville Police Department. Officers and firefighters arriving at the scene found a female juvenile with multiple injuries.
Carterville EMS transported the victim to a staging location, where she was transferred to an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter and flown to a St. Louis-area hospital. Her condition was not immediately released.
Police said the vehicle involved fled the scene but was located shortly afterward. The driver, identified as Joseph Uhls, 45, of Carterville, was taken into custody and booked into the Williamson County Jail. He faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident-causing great bodily harm.
The investigation was assisted by the Crainville Police Department, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police.
