CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man was taken into custody early Tuesday after allegedly pointing a firearm at a woman during a domestic dispute, according to police.
At about 3:16 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex near the city limits on a report of a weapons violation. Dispatch advised that a male subject was holding a gun to a female’s head.
When officers arrived, they spoke with a woman who said she had been drinking and socializing with a friend at the residence of Daniel Washburn, 18, when he began acting erratically, using profane language and becoming aggressive. She said Washburn pointed a gun at his own head before she attempted to leave with her friend, who is Washburn’s girlfriend.
Shortly after, the witness reported hearing the girlfriend scream. When she went outside to check, she said Washburn concealed the firearm inside a gray satchel and pointed it toward her, telling her, “If I wanted to shoot you, I would.”
The woman said Washburn then grabbed his girlfriend by the hand and led her back into the apartment, warning her, “If you follow me, I will shoot you.”
Officers searched the apartment and located a gray satchel in the bathroom and a firearm hidden under the sink. Police noted the firearm’s serial number had been scratched off.
Washburn was arrested without incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
