MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — A former Murray High School teacher has been arrested following a Kentucky State Police investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with a student dating back more than a decade.

Jason Shelby, who resigned from his teaching position in 2018, was taken into custody Sept. 10 on charges of third-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. He is being held in the Calloway County Jail.

According to KSP Post 1, the investigation began in August 2018 after the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board reported possible misconduct involving Shelby and at least two students. Allegations against him date back as far as 2005. Shelby resigned from Murray High School in October 2018 following the initial report.

Detectives said the case gained new momentum in August 2025, when a former student came forward and reported that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with Shelby in 2008 and 2009, when she was 15 and 16 years old.

Detective William Propes is continuing the investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with information related to this case to contact KSP Post 1 at (270) 856-3721 or submit a tip online through the KSP website.
