U.S. 51 closure scheduled near Cairo for bridge removal

CAIRO, Ill., (KBSI) — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that U.S. 51 near Cairo Junior/Senior High School in Alexander County will close at 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, to allow crews to remove an old, unused railroad bridge over the highway near Union Street.
The road is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15.
Motorists are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions, obey posted speed limits, avoid using mobile devices, and watch for workers and equipment in the area.
