Sikeston DPS ‘Fill the Boot’ at Walmart to support Muscular Dystrophy Association

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) – Sikeston Department of Public Safety is collecting donations at Walmart as part of the “Fill the Boot” campaign to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Community members can contribute in person at Walmart or make cashless and online donations through the campaign’s website at Sikeston Fire MO – Fundraising For Fill the Boot.

The annual fundraiser supports MDA’s efforts to advance research, care and advocacy for individuals and families living with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.

In a powerful display of solidarity, local Sikeston Police Officers and Firefighters joined forces to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Brooks Brockmire is a Sikeston Public Safety Officer and was out helping raise funds today for the Fill the Boot Campaign.

“I think it’s very important for the community outreach and obviously for, you know, public safety to give back to the community” says Brockmire.

The campaign raises money for children diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy.

Started in 1954 between the International Association of Firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Muscular Dystrophy affects more than 27,000 children in the U.S and currently has no cure, so extensive research is still needed.

“It’s a partnership with the MDA to help raise funds for research and for cures and rehab for MBA patients” says Brockmire.

First responders will be posted at the Sikeston Walmart through Sunday raising money.
