CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Conservation will host its annual Day on the River event Sept. 20 at Riverfront Park in Cape Girardeau.
The free event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to all ages and requires no registration. Highlights include informational booths, live aquatic animal displays, kids’ crafts, and boat rides on the Mississippi River guided by MDC staff.
“Families can enjoy boat rides, practice casting a fishing pole, and see fish right out of the big river,” said MDC naturalist Angela Pierce. “The Mississippi River and surrounding wetlands are a huge part of Cape Girardeau’s heritage and provide important habitat for wildlife.”
Boat rides will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., depending on river levels. Officials recommend early arrival for those wishing to participate.
