Stolen vehicle recovered; driver arrested in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man was taken into custody Saturday night after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop in Marion.

At approximately 11:27 p.m., deputies observed a vehicle known to have been reported stolen out of Johnston City traveling south on Russell Street from Boulevard Street. Deputies initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle pulled into a gas station parking lot.

The driver, Steven W. Brown, 36, was arrested and transported to the Williamson County Jail. He was cited for possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 4 felony. A passenger in the vehicle was briefly detained and later released at the scene.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Marion Police Department and Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson for their assistance.
