HARRISBURG, Ill., (KBSI) — A Harrisburg man was arrested Tuesday after police said he fired a gun during an argument and then hid in a nearby home.

Officers responded around 3:01 p.m. Sept. 23 to reports of shots fired in the 700 block of South Granger Street. Witnesses told police a man had discharged a firearm during a dispute with another male, according to the Harrisburg Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Kelly R. Rouse, 20, left the scene and went into a residence on Park Street, police said. Officers confirmed Rouse was inside but said he refused to come out.

Police entered the home and deployed a K-9, which located Rouse hiding in the basement. He was taken into custody without further incident.

A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Harrisburg Fire Department and Abbott EMS assisted police.
