CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The PORCH Initiative has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation to expand homeownership and community revitalization efforts in Cape Girardeau’s South Cape neighborhood.
The nonprofit, founded in 2023, focuses on increasing access to first-time homeownership, financial education and community resilience. To date, PORCH has helped more than 10 families purchase homes, reinvesting more than $1.2 million into South Cape real estate and adding over $5,000 to the city’s tax base.
“Generational wealth is generational health,” said PORCH CEO Tameka Randle. “Together with partners like U.S. Bank, we are building a foundation for lasting opportunity in South Cape.”
The grant will support programs such as PORCH’s Homeowner Mentorship Program, which pairs first-time buyers with experienced homeowners to provide guidance and strengthen neighborhood ties.
Kristen Polchinski, U.S. Bank community affairs manager, said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting stable housing and financial literacy. “Safe and stable housing helps children, families and communities thrive,” she said.
