CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Area Community Foundation (CACF) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this fall, marking a decade of service and impact across Southeast Missouri.

Formed in 2015 under the leadership of the late Maurice “Moe” Sandfort, CACF was created in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO). It originally served Cape Girardeau and northern Scott counties, later expanding to include Bollinger County in 2022.

Over the past decade, CACF has distributed more than $9 million to local nonprofits addressing needs in education, healthcare, community journalism, emergency response, public safety and historic preservation. The foundation now manages 77 funds with total assets nearing $2.3 million and works with more than 25 nonprofits and local governments.

“CACF has become a trusted resource for philanthropy in our region,” the foundation said in a statement. “We look forward to building on this foundation by continuing to connect donors with opportunities that strengthen our communities.”

The foundation offers a range of charitable giving options, including scholarships, donor-advised funds, field-of-interest funds and fiscal sponsorships. CACF also facilitates legacy giving opportunities, such as bequests, life insurance, beneficiary designations and charitable trusts.

As a regional affiliate of CFO, CACF is a tax-exempt public charity. More information is available at www.cfozarks.org/affiliates/cape-area
