Saint Louis Zoo to debut Komodo dragon ‘Charlie’ during Boo at the Zoo
KBSI FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
ST. LOUIS, Mo., (KBSI) — A new resident is joining the Saint Louis Zoo this month: a six-year-old Komodo dragon named Charlie.
Charlie, named after Zoo Director Emeritus Charles H. Hoessle, arrived last month from the Bronx Zoo in New York, an Association of Zoos and Aquariums–accredited institution. He will be the first inhabitant of the zoo’s newly renovated Komodo dragon habitat inside the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium, redesigned to meet the species’ growth and enrichment needs.
The habitat will open to the public Oct. 16-19 during evening hours of Boo at the Zoo, presented by SSM Health Cardinal Glennon. Guests attending those ticketed events will be among the first to see Charlie in his new environment.
Beginning Oct. 20, Charlie will be on display daily during regular zoo hours as well as in the evenings during Boo at the Zoo.
