SEMO welcomes new president at Presidential Inauguration ceremony

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Southeast Missouri State University has been in full celebration mode as they welcome a new president. 

Southeast Missouri State University held a Presidental Inauguration on Friday, October 17, 2025, officially bringing in the Universities 19th President.

Educators, students, community leaders and more gathered at the Cape Girardeau Show Me Center for the official Presidental inauguration of Semo President Dr. Brad Hodson multiple speeches were given by current Semo staff. 

One Professor saying, “To welcome you Dr. Hodson and to welcome you in this moment of celebration as the heart of SEMO where the education experiences we create and we teach but we also mentor, guide, challenge and inspire.”

The inauguration was part of a multiday celebration. Hodson received a blessing before his official appointment, and speeches from the Board of Governors, including member and US District Judge Stephen Limbaugh Sr. who shared some of Semo’s rich history.

Dr. Hodson shared his passion for education and talked about challenges universities can face and shared his vision moving forward. Saying he’s deeply honored for this opportunity.

“My deepest gratitude for this honor, for the trust placed in me by the board of governors. I am deeply honored. I will work every day to renew your trust in me” says Hodson. 

Dr. Brad Hodson is the 19th President of Semo, after 18th President Dr. Carlos Vargas. Hodson has a wife and four children and shares that they’re support has helped him in his achievements. Hodson sharing it’s time for something new. 

“There is a cry for something new. An educational model that is relevant, rigorous and rooted in the needs of students and the economy” says Hodson. 

Semo student President of Board of Governors Sophie Martin shared a big welcome from all the students of Semo where the crowd chimed in Welcome.
