Major Case Squad concludes investigation into Cape Girardeau homicide; case remains active

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau–Bollinger County Major Case Squad has disbanded following several days of intensive investigation into the death of 55-year-old Dianna Dowdy of Cape Girardeau. The investigation will now be handled by the Cape Girardeau Police Department, which continues to follow active leads.

Previous Updates

On Nov. 3, investigators identified the victim as Dianna Dowdy and asked for the public’s assistance in locating her vehicle — a dark blue 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe with a white “First Auto Credit” sticker on the left rear hatch. The vehicle was last seen around 1:10 a.m. on Nov. 1, traveling north on Frederick Street and crossing Broadway.

Businesses and residents in the area with exterior security cameras were encouraged to review footage for possible sightings of the vehicle.

Original Incident

At approximately 1:55 a.m. on Nov. 1, officers responded to the 600 block of Morgan Oak Street for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers found a woman who had been severely injured. The victim, later identified as Dowdy, succumbed to her injuries.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
