PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Portageville Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire Saturday night in the 200 block of East Ninth Street.

Firefighters were dispatched around 9:30 p.m., and Engine 1 and Ladder 10 responded, the department said. When crews arrived, they found a single-story home with heavy smoke and flames showing.

Firefighters began an interior attack and search, but an evacuation order was issued after flames broke through the roof. Crews then switched to exterior operations using deck guns and ladder trucks.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained on scene until about 5 a.m. Sunday.
