PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A Paducah Police Department vehicle was struck by gunfire Friday evening during a pursuit involving the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, authorities said.
As the chase approached the city limits on Lone Oak Road around 8:07 p.m., Paducah Police Sgt. Dylan Cook attempted to deploy stop sticks to disable the fleeing vehicle. Cook had parked his marked police car, with emergency lights activated, at the entrance of the former Kmart parking lot in the 2500 block of Lone Oak Road.
As the suspect’s vehicle passed, the driver — later identified as Robert Wray — allegedly fired a handgun toward the police car. A bullet struck the rear passenger window, just a few feet from where Sgt. Cook was standing. He was not injured.
The Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.
