CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly threatening two people with a firearm, unlawfully restraining them inside a vehicle, and later being found in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine, police said.

According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, officers responded around 12:24 a.m. on Nov. 8 to a report of a weapons violation. When officers arrived, two victims told police they had been sitting in a parked vehicle with Lionel L. Greer, 39, when a confrontation occurred over a missing SIM card.

The victims said Greer became upset, exited the vehicle, and pulled out a black handgun with an extended magazine.

He allegedly racked the slide, pointed the weapon at one of the victims, and threatened to kill him. When the victims tried to exit, Greer and another person reportedly prevented them from leaving. The situation deescalated when a bystander approached, allowing the victims to escape and call police.

Officers quickly located Greer and a female passenger driving a 2012 gray Ford Focus in Charleston, Missouri, after receiving assistance from Charleston Department of Public Safety officers. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was later issued for the vehicle. Officers recovered a black handgun with an extended magazine under the driver’s seat and a clear plastic bag containing 142 grams of methamphetamine under the passenger seat. A digital scale was also found in the driver’s door. Field tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.

Greer admitted to being a convicted felon and to possessing the firearm and methamphetamine, according to police. The female passenger denied knowledge of the drugs.

Greer was booked into the Cape Girardeau County Jail at 1:55 a.m. on Nov. 9 and is being held on a $75,000 bond. He faces the following charges:

  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Exhibiting
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Kidnapping, Second Degree (2 counts)
  • First-Degree Drug Trafficking – Over Statutory Amount

The investigation remains ongoing.
