Marion police arrest burglary suspects after multiple overnight break-in attempts

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — Marion police arrested a man Tuesday after multiple reports and videos showed a masked suspect attempting to break into several homes overnight, the department said.
Officers determined the same individual was involved in each incident and circulated a description of the suspect’s clothing. Patrol officers and narcotics detectives began grid-style patrols throughout the city in an effort to locate him.
The suspect was found shortly afterward, still wearing the same pants, shirt and shoes, with the mask reportedly used during the attempts found in his pocket. He was identified as Dewayne M. Perrian, 34.
Perrian was taken into custody on suspicion of residential burglary as officers continued investigating additional reported break-ins across Marion. Police later learned Perrian was already on pretrial release in Jackson County for several similar offenses and had been scheduled for release from Williamson County custody on Nov. 19.
Marion officers worked with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office to obtain a warrant for violating pretrial services on those pending cases, preventing Perrian from being released again.
Perrian has been formally charged with three counts of burglary in Williamson County. The investigation remains active, and police encourage residents to report any additional information.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
