CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The 5th annual Mary Mingle 5K is set for tomorrow at 8 a.m., beginning outside Houck Stadium and finishing at the Courthouse steps on Spanish Street. Spanish will be closed from Broadway to Independence during the event.
With 517 runners registered, organizers are encouraging participants to pick up race packets tonight from 3 to 6 p.m. at Missouri Running Company in Cape Girardeau. Limited packet pickup will also be available Saturday from 6:15 to 7:45 a.m. inside Mary Jane Bourbon & Smokehouse on Broadway.
The Community Counseling Center Foundation will host the Mary Mingle 5K on Saturday, December 6, marking the largest turnout in the race’s history.
The professionally timed event, managed by Red Runner Racing, will start outside Mary Jane’s Bourbon + Smokehouse, across from Houck Fieldhouse, and follow a downtown course that concludes at Minglewood Brewery at Broadway and Spanish streets. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age division: 0–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69 and 70-plus.
Proceeds support the Community Counseling Center Foundation and its services for individuals living with mental illness across a five-county region. Executive Director Michelle Ramsey said record participation is expected to increase the foundation’s impact.
“Every registration directly supports our 160-plus residential clients by helping fund Christmas gifts and essential services,” Ramsey said. “Last year’s event raised more than $20,000, and with this record participation, we are confident the 2025 race will exceed that total and expand our ability to enhance care for the people we serve.”
Race Director Brandy McIntire said the event continues to grow because of strong community involvement.
“This event simply wouldn’t be possible without the runners, walkers, volunteers and generous business sponsors who show up each year,” McIntire said. “Whether participants run or walk, they are making a direct impact on mental health services in our community.”
Registration remains open.
