CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale will distribute boxes of fresh food from Cusumano & Sons, Inc. beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19. The giveaway will continue until supplies are exhausted.
City Manager Stan Reno said the annual effort reflects the city’s commitment to supporting residents during the holiday season.
“The holiday season is a celebrated time in Carbondale, and this food box giveaway is one way we can share that spirit with our community,” Reno said. “Everyone deserves access to nutritious meals, especially during the holidays. The City of Carbondale is proud to offer this support and grateful for the partnerships that make it possible. I encourage all residents who can benefit from this program to take part.”
Residents may pick up food boxes by driving through the west parking lot of City Hall. Temporary traffic changes will be in place during the Winter Food Box Giveaway, and motorists near South Illinois Avenue and City Hall may encounter detours, reduced lane access and brief delays. Drivers are asked to use caution and follow posted signs and instructions from city personnel.
The city will also provide food box delivery for homebound residents who live within city limits. Delivery is available only to individuals with mobility challenges who cannot leave their homes. Requests must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, December 17 by contacting Faith Johnson at fjohnson@carbondaleil.gov or 618-457-3229.
