SMITHLAND, Ky., (KBSI) — Livingston County first responders were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. Monday to the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 West and Gillahan Road for a reported two-vehicle collision. Before crews arrived, two additional crashes occurred in the same area, resulting in a total of four vehicles being involved.
According to a preliminary investigation, Kenneth Maxey, 62, of Grand Rivers, was traveling outbound on U.S. Highway 60 in a red 2016 Dodge Ram when he rear-ended a gray 1999 Dodge Ram driven by William Smith, 21, of Burna. Smith’s passenger was identified as 21-year-old Alesa Smith of Paducah. The initial crash left Maxey’s truck disabled in the roadway.
A short time later, Cynthia Walker, 62, of Smithland, was traveling outbound in a silver 2016 Nissan Versa when she struck the disabled red Dodge Ram. Maxey was outside his vehicle attempting to direct traffic at the time. Walker sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to Baptist Health for treatment.
In a third collision, Johnathan Collins, 34, of Paducah, was traveling inbound on U.S. Highway 60 when his 2006 Ford Taurus entered the debris field and sideswiped Maxey’s unoccupied truck.
Authorities said all three collisions occurred within roughly 10 minutes of the initial call.
The investigation is being led by Deputy Zackary Dunigan. Agencies assisting at the scene included the Ledbetter Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, West Kentucky Towing and Recovery, and Bailey’s Wrecker Service. U.S. Highway 60 was closed for about one hour and fifteen minutes while crews cleared the roadway.
