Ballard County inmate earns GED after 38 years out of school

BARLOW, Ky., (KBSI) — The Ballard County Detention Center is recognizing inmate Glen Smith Jr., who recently earned his GED after being out of school for 38 years.

Detention center officials praised Smith for his dedication and the staff who supported him through the process. Those photographed with Smith include Kentucky Adult Education instructor Elizabeth Howell, Jailer Eric Coppess and Chief Deputy and GED proctor Christina Harvell.

“The impact of this success extends far beyond the walls of Ballard County Detention,” the center said in a statement. “We wish Mr. Glen Smith Jr. all the best for a brighter future.”
