Jan. 9 deadline approaches for Paducah tree voucher applications
FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The Paducah Parks & Recreation is accepting applications through Jan. 9 for its Tree Voucher Program, an initiative aimed at expanding the city’s tree canopy and supporting local homeowners.
The program offers owners of single-family residential properties within Paducah city limits a $250 voucher to purchase approved shade trees from participating local nurseries. The effort is designed to encourage tree planting on private property to improve environmental quality, provide shade and enhance neighborhood aesthetics for future generations.
Paducah Parks & Recreation is partnering with James Sanders Nursery and Edwards Nursery to supply a selection of approved shade tree species. Once a voucher is redeemed, the nursery will invoice the City of Paducah for the cost of the trees, up to $250. Property owners are responsible for any additional costs, including planting, delivery and maintenance.
The program applies only to shade trees and does not include ornamental varieties. Eligible species and size requirements apply. Full program details and the online application are available through the Tree Voucher Program webpage. Applications may also be submitted in person at the Parks and Recreation Office, 2701 Park Ave., during regular business hours.
Vouchers are expected to be distributed in February 2026, allowing participants to purchase trees for spring planting. The city has allocated $150,000 for the program, and vouchers will be valid through December 2026.
