KBSI FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
(KBSI) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning a daytime closure on the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge connecting Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill., on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Weather permitting, crews will inspect the electrical conduits and junction boxes for the bridge’s navigation lighting system.
To facilitate the work, the bridge will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Motorists traveling between Kentucky and Illinois should use the I-24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah and Metropolis as an alternate route.
The city of Jackson’s construction crew will soon begin work to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Route 61 and Deerwood Drive in Cape Girardeau County.
Weather permitting, work will begin Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 a.m. with completion anticipated Friday, May 29.
During the first phase, Route 61 and Deerwood Drive will be reduced one lane with 12-foot width restrictions as contractor crews construct the roundabout. With temporary four-way signals in use and the potential for significant congestion, motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes throughout the duration of the project.
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
