MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of Oaks Road and Shemwell Lane.

Deputies said the crash was reported at about 7:13 a.m. Amanda Beck, 42, of Paducah, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer south on Oaks Road with a 13-year-old passenger when the vehicle encountered ice while navigating a curve. The SUV spun, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze driven northbound by Alicia Andersson, 57, of Benton.

The impact caused the Ford Explorer to overturn and come to rest on its side, authorities said.

Beck and her passenger were taken to a local hospital. The juvenile was later transferred to an out-of-state hospital with incapacitating injuries. Andersson was initially taken to a local hospital and later transported to an out-of-state facility, where she died from her injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Reidland-Farley Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance, Vanzant’s Towing, McCracken County DES and the McCracken County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
