Kentucky waives motor carrier restrictions ahead of winter storm

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has issued an official order temporarily waiving certain restrictions on motor carriers involved in emergency relief efforts ahead of a forecasted winter storm.
Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray signed the order as part of Team Kentucky’s emergency preparedness efforts. The action is intended to speed the delivery of fuel, propane and other critical supplies, as well as support power restoration operations.
“Preparation is critical to an effective response in emergency situations,” Gray said. “Signing this order allows us to move resources and ensure help can get to Kentuckians and surrounding states as quickly as possible.”
The order is effective for up to 14 days or until the state of emergency is lifted. It temporarily suspends limits on driving hours, and weigh station stops for commercial drivers transporting approved relief supplies, agricultural products or equipment used for power restoration.
Motor carriers operating under the order are required to follow all safety regulations and keep a copy of the order in the vehicle cab.
