Fire damages Cape Girardeau home; three displaced

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire Wednesday afternoon at a two-story home in Cape Girardeau, officials said.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was dispatched at 12:27 p.m. Jan. 28 to the intersection of William Street and Pacific Street for a report of a house fire. Crews arrived within two minutes and reported smoke coming from the attic of the residence at 205 S. Pacific St.

Firefighters entered the second floor and located a fire inside a wall that had spread into the attic space. Crews conducted an aggressive interior attack in the attic and wall areas, bringing the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Overhaul operations continued for approximately two hours to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

No injuries were reported. Three people were displaced as a result of the fire.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Jackson and Gordonville fire departments. Fire coverage in Cape Girardeau was provided by Scott City, Fruitland and East County fire personnel during the response.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
