Overnight fire destroys business in Benton Industrial Park

BENTON, Ill., (KBSI) — A fire early Thursday destroyed a business in the Benton Industrial Park, according to fire officials.

Fire crews were called to the scene at about 12:20 a.m. at Midwest Tire Disposal on Illinois Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire coming through the roof of the building. A box alarm was requested, bringing multiple additional fire agencies to assist.

Officials said the fire was contained before it could spread to nearby structures, but the building was a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Crews remained on scene through the morning to fully extinguish the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected.

Midwest Tire Disposal specializes in waste tire collection services and is a registered tire hauler in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri, according to the company’s website.

Responding and assisting agencies included the Benton Fire Department, Benton Police Department, AMR Ambulance Services, West Frankfort Fire Department and the Mount Vernon Fire Department, which provided ladder trucks. Additional agencies included the Zeigler Fire Department, Sesser Fire Protection District, Ewing Northern Fire and West City Fire. Coello Fire and Johnston City Fire provided change-of-quarters coverage.
