Cape Girardeau man charged after assault leaves two injured

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A 19-year-old Cape Girardeau man has been charged following an early-morning assault that left two people injured, police said.
Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department were called to an area hospital at about 5:50 a.m. Jan. 30 for a report of an assault. The victims told officers they were assaulted around 1:30 a.m. in the 0–100 block of Southwest End Boulevard.
Police identified the suspect as Coleton Geiser, 19, of Cape Girardeau. Investigators said Geiser struck one victim in the face multiple times, causing serious injuries, including multiple fractures to the victim’s jaw. Police said Geiser also struck a second victim several times, causing facial lacerations, and attempted to strangle that victim, resulting in bruising to the neck.
At about 7:30 a.m., officers located Geiser in the 2500 block of Peach Tree and took him into custody. He was transported to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
Geiser was formally charged by the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with first-degree assault, a Class A felony, and third-degree assault, a Class E felony. He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Authorities noted that charges are allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
