LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported case of identity theft involving a Ledbetter resident.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies began the investigation July 7, 2025, after a resident reported their bank account had been compromised, resulting in about $17,000 being transferred without authorization.

The investigation, led by Deputy Donald Crawford, identified the suspect as 23-year-old Fernando O. Diaz of Madison. The case was presented to a Livingston County grand jury in October 2025, where an indictment was returned charging Diaz with identity theft without consent.

Authorities in Tennessee later took Diaz into custody, and he was extradited to Kentucky. He is currently lodged in the McCracken County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

As with all criminal cases, Diaz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
