Teen arrested after reported robbery on West Jackson Street in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 17-year-old male was arrested following a robbery reported Monday morning in Carbondale, according to the City of Carbondale Police Department.
Police said officers responded at about 9:41 a.m. Feb. 2, 2026, to the 400 block of West Jackson Street for a report of a robbery. Officers learned the victim was walking from their vehicle when the suspect grabbed property the victim was carrying and struck the victim in the face. The suspect then fled on foot with the stolen property.
Officers located the suspect in the immediate area and found him in possession of some of the victim’s property. Police said the remaining property was later recovered after being discarded by the suspect.
The suspect, a 17-year-old from Marion County, Illinois, was arrested on charges of robbery and aggravated battery. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail pending transfer to a regional juvenile detention facility.
The victim sustained a minor injury and was treated at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the juvenile’s name was not released. The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice parole division assisted with the investigation.
