CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, to discuss proposed improvements at the intersection of U.S. Route 61 and Route 80 near Matthews.

The meeting will be held at the Nutrition Center, 301 W. Main St., in Matthews. Construction could begin as early as June 2027, with work expected to last about nine months.

In western Kentucky, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close the U.S. 45 Ohio River Bridge, also known as the Brookport Bridge, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, for its annual walk-through inspection. The bridge, which connects Paducah and Brookport, will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Officials said the inspection, typically conducted in the spring, is scheduled earlier this year ahead of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s planned restart of the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge rehabilitation project in March.

Also in Kentucky, a KYTC contractor will implement a lane restriction on U.S. 45/Highland Drive at the intersection of Kentucky 1648 in Fulton County beginning Monday, Feb. 9. Crews will conduct concrete patching near mile point 0.8.

The lane restriction will remain in place during daytime work hours and overnight while the concrete cures. Motorists should watch for signage directing traffic into the open lane, as work will alternate between lanes throughout the project.
