One person killed in West Frankfort house fire under investigation

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire that occurred early Tuesday morning in West Frankfort.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 3:55 a.m. to the 400 block of East Seventh Street following reports of a residential structure fire with possible occupants inside.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames and began an aggressive interior attack while conducting a primary search of the home.
One person was found inside the residence and was pronounced dead at the scene. No firefighters were injured.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
