CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Carbondale Government announced that a water main replacement project in the Murdale Shopping Center area is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The project will be completed by A&W Plumbing and is expected to take eight to 10 weeks. Work will begin west of North Emerald Lane, continue through the alley behind Murdale Shopping Center and connect to North Glenview Drive near Turley Park. Some water services along West Woodriver Drive will also be affected.

City officials said brief water service interruptions may occur during the replacement process. Planned outages are typically scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., though disruptions could occur at other times due to unforeseen circumstances.

The city does not anticipate issuing boil water orders but advised residents to run cold water faucets until clear if discoloration occurs.

Residents with questions may contact the city’s Utilities Department at 618-457-3240, ext. 1, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. For emergencies outside normal business hours, the 24-hour Water and Sewer Hotline can be reached at 618-529-1731, ext. 6.

City officials thanked residents for their patience as improvements are made to the neighborhood’s water infrastructure.
