CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau Firefighters Local 1084 has endorsed Robbie Guard in the race for mayor, citing concerns over stalled labor contract negotiations and the need for improved communication with city leadership.
Union officials say firefighters have worked for more than three years without a ratified labor contract while continuing to respond to emergencies and serve the community.
Local 1084 President Andrew Juden said the endorsement followed careful consideration and is based on what the union describes as Guard’s willingness to engage in productive discussions and recognize the role of first responders.
The union said it is seeking leadership that respects the collective bargaining process and prioritizes public safety. Officials added they believe new leadership is necessary to resolve ongoing issues and restore trust between City Hall and firefighters.
Firefighters said they remain committed to serving the community regardless of the outcome of the election.
