Illinois State Police arrest two in Carbondale firearm investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Illinois State Police have arrested a 19-year-old woman and a 15-year-old male following the execution of search warrants in Jackson County.
According to ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 7, special agents executed two search warrants Feb. 18 in Carbondale, one in the 700 block of West College Street and another in the 800 block of East College Street. During the searches, agents recovered a firearm.
Authorities say Shariah Davis, 19, of Carbondale, and a 15-year-old male were taken into custody at the scene.
The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm, a Class 4 felony, against Davis. The juvenile was charged with one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a machine gun, a Class X felony.
Both were detained pending their first court appearance.
Illinois State Police were assisted by the Carbondale Police Department, ILEAS SWAT and the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office. No additional information has been released.
