CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The General John A. Logan Museum is planning a history-themed parade this summer to mark two significant milestones.
The America 250 / Logan 200 Grand Parade is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6. The event will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 200th birthday of John A. Logan.
Organizers said the parade will include historical attractions such as classic automobiles, cannon units, and Revolutionary War and Civil War reenactors.
Museum officials are also inviting community members with ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War or Civil War to participate. Plans call for creating placards bearing the names of those soldiers for family members to carry during the parade.
Individuals interested in honoring an ancestor are asked to contact the museum by May 15 to allow time for the placards to be prepared.
Additional information about Civil War service records is available through the Illinois Secretary of State’s Civil War Muster and Descriptive Rolls database.
